Determine x86 or x64 OS Bit Architecture from the Windows Registry

I found myself in a situation where I needed to determine if a Windows operating system was 32-bit or 64-bit from within the Windows registry.  I discovered there is a registry value that holds this information under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment

The PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE string data will either be AMD64 (meaning 64-bit) or x86 (meaning 32-bit).  This is the same for both Intel and AMD hardware.
